TALES OF THE JOB SEARCH: 7 lessons from first job

Aside

I was looking for a job and then I found a job and heaven knows I’m miserable now- The Smiths, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now

Yeah, that sounds right I was Miserable, after realizing the company hired young management because they fostered a high turnover rate, therefore no increase in pay or benefits. It was clear that the corporate ladder was far from reach.

ImageBeing a young supervisor with NO INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE was a nightmare, yet this was one of my most pivotal moments after college.

I felt like I was playing Leonardo DiCaprio  http://youtu.be/i5j1wWY-qus in Catch Me if You Can! Regardless, my learning’s were many and I’ll highlight 7 listed below.

  1. Listen before you speak;  people tend to have the answers
  2. Respect is earned and maintained
  3. Your energy is reflected by your team
  4. Your accounts are key don’t piss them off
  5. The importance of the word WE, as in we will meet this quota team
  6. If you are innovative you can become whomever you want
  7. If a coworker gives you a cool nickname go with it, don’t be a square

Life places you in situations that you’re not ready for, all you can do is adapt and learn.
